Album Review: (from Diane and the RadioIndy.com reviewer team)
A heap of energy and wit is exactly what you will hear on "The Best of Comedy and Drops" by the wild and crazy radio and internet DJ Wild Wilson. Wilson has compiled a collection of favorite snippets from his past shows with an unstoppable comedy quality. He creatively covers a wide range of topics with jokes, songs, ads, and drops. Not only does Wilson host a polka show, but he can really dish out hilarious lyrics with polka beats in songs such as "The Intercourse Polka (with Brute Force)" and "My Dearest Polka." If that doesn't hurt your sides from laughing so hard then take a close listen to his side-splitting ads like "Bob's Grocery" or "Ishmails Music and Meat." Wilson can deliver amusing jokes with comical ease as you will hear on "Things That Are Downright Impossible to Say When Drunk." If you're a fan of Jeff Foxworthy, you will want to add this album; "The Best of Comedy and Drops" to your comedy CD collection.

Album Review: (from JohnZ)
Since I listen to the WildWilson program on a regular basis quite frankly I was expecting a rehash of material I have already listened to. The truth is the CD is just the oposite of what I expected. Even though I remember some of the humor, the burlesque and vaudeville atmosphere you created on the CD made all the humor fresh and intertaining. And you somehow were able to capture all the best of Wildwilson. My litmus test of a CD is will I listen to it multiple times, and you passed my litmus test. I also want to compliment DJ Companionrecords on the physical quality of the CD, the multi page insert, the pictures, it is this going the extra mile that completes a superior product. I rate this CD at a Bill Crosby level.

Album Review: (from Dan MacIntosh)
Radio can be a lonely business. And unless you’ve done real life radio, you really can’t comprehend the gripping fear that comes along with running out of meaningful things to say. And for those that do morning radio, where humor is expected to be fast, furious, and fresh, it is essential to keep the patter lively, without any discernable interruption. Wild Wilson has come to the rescue of the conversationally challenged and put together a huge collection of jokes, songs, drops, and observations. There are 93 different tracks on this jam-packed release, so radio hosts are likely to find material they can use here.
Like Weird Al, Wilson has an affinity for polka. He sings “Happy Mother’s Day Polka”, ... , “My Dearest Polka”, “My Polka Heart”, and “Fifteenth Century Polka”. But Wilson also differs from Al, in that none of these musical numbers are parody songs. Instead, he utilizes upbeat, happy polka sounds to sing his slightly naughty lyrics. Wilson also features the band Polkacide on the tune, “Baja on the Bayou”. This is punk polka, by the way, which is certainly not your grandparent’s polka. But it’s is a whole lot of fun.
For his brief set of Halloween sillies, Wilson tells jokes over excerpts from “Night on Bald Mountain” by Modest Mussorgsky. The “Frank Frogs” features excerpts from “Symphony No. 4 in A Major ‘Italian’, Op. 90 – 1, Allegro vivace” by Felix Mendelssohn – performed by Skidmore College Orchestra. Other times, Wilson plugs in sound effects, instead, such as the saw sounds put behind the faux ad “Bring Your Buck to Ewers”. Then in select spots, Wilson adds in canned laughter.
Wilson also tells a lot of jokes, and in some cases, such as with “Divorced Barbie” -- a joke where a salesman explains all the unique qualities of this special Barbie -- he even laughs heartily at his own jokes. His bit about “Pillsbury Doughboy Obituary” may be his best bit here. It’s corny, of course, but the thought of the Pillsbury Doughboy dying of a yeast infection is simply good, clean fun.
Perhaps Wilson’s most endearing quality is his natural, Midwestern voice. He doesn’t sound like some smooth, comedy club comedian. Rather, he comes off like an everyman comedian. With “And Then the Fight Started”, Wilson runs off a long series of relatively harmless sexist jokes. Chances are women won’t like these put-downs. But it’s all in good fun, with no malice intended.
Furthermore, this man either has a thing against financial institutions, or he’s heard one too many ad for banking interests on the radio. One of his bad bank commercials is titled “NSF Banks of Minnesota”, and another one is called “Swindles Savings & Loan”. These bits may make you listen to radio commercials with a whole lot more suspicion next time.
I’m not sure how well Wild Wilson’s humor would go over in a place like Los Angeles, where I live. Humor here must be hip and cosmopolitan, which are two words you would never use to describe this CD. But for regions where the pace is slower and corny jokes still go over well, these clips might find many happy homes. I’m also not sure if the world is ready for another funny accordion man: Weird Al has pretty much cornered the market on that one. Yet who knows, perhaps states like Minnesota still have a thing for comedy-polka. Radio, after all, is a different wherever you go.

Ok folks, here's the scoop and a little history. (from the producer of the cd)

POLKAJOKE: It's here, it's now, it's hot, it's the new sensation and yes, it's cool.

Back this past spring I released an album from Al Bachmann called German Oktoberfest which was a collection of Al Bachmann's best material from 4 LPs he had put out in the 1970's and early 80's. The albums were a local hit in the southern Ontario region and in the clubs where Al played 5-6 nights a week with his band Edelweiss but I wanted to promote the music on an international scale.

I had sent the music to a number of polka DJs who gave it airplay but with one DJ in particular I had developed a dialogue and in turn I became a fan of HIS show. I particularly liked the fact that in addition to playing the polkas Wild Wilson told a lot of jokes on his show, had an "off -the -cuff" wacky and wild demeanor in his presentation, and one other thing, he didn't just play the music, he got to know many of the polka artists personally and has quite the website. Just in case you haven't visited it, go to www.wildwilson.com.

I had been in the back of my mind thinking of developing a comedy and drops style of album FOR YEARS, but in August of this past year I approached Wild Wilson about the idea of putting out an album which focused on his own comedy stylings, some wacky ads he had worked on in the past and so forth - sort of a comedy album with a polka twist.

Well, for the past 6 months I had been slowly going thru his 7 years of shows and pulling out material that I thought would create an entertaining cd that would express what he is all about. At the same time I was working on 2 albums with 2 of my primary artists, Al Bachmann and Fern Viola. Al wanted to have a soap-opera style song with his piano background and the voices of an imaginary couple. I immediately talked to Wild Wilson, and well, the new DJ Companion Records release MY FAITH contains a song THE COUPLE, written by Al Bachmann and using the voices of Wild Wilson and Tammy Nerby as "the couple".

Around the same time Wild Wilson invited me to take part in polka chats in the previous www.polkavideos.com for which he was one of the hosts. I had the pleasure of meeting in these chats many people in the polka world such as John Z and Johnny Prytko among others and well, on Wednesday, Thursday and sometimes on Sunday nights it sort of became part of my late dinner ritual.

Then I learned that as of December 31 polkavideos was going to cease to be and it was at this time that I set up a chat room on my own site www.djcompanionrecords.com although I did learn recently that the polkavideos chats were being transferred to polkajoy.

I had set up a regular polkachat on Sunday nights on my site (please visit tonight at 8:30 est) and it was there that we were brainstorming ways to 1)get more people to chat and 2)revitalize the polka movement. Well, a couple of weeks ago Johnny Prytko suggested setting up a polka chat for polka DJs and IJs exclusively on Monday nights, and although I couldn't myself take part on a regular basis due to family obligations on that night, we set up a Monday night chat for polka DJ's/IJ's hosted by Johnny Prytko.

Johnny also thought that if we just said polka chat people might not come, so that is how this whole "POLKA IS DEAD?" thing came about. To anyone who was offended in any way I appologize, but what I don't appologize for is creating a dialogue on ways to revitalize polka and I thank Johnny Prytko for that. I hope that as many of you as possible come to the chat room Monday night www.djcompanionrecords.com . Although I will try to be there Johnny has told me he will be there for sure as I am hoping will a number of you. Please, no fistfights though, we need to work together for the good of polka.

Anyway, in the midst of all this while I was still working on Wild Wilson's album (for which we were planning a February release) a light bulb came on in my head. I had been putting bed music behind some of his comedy SO WHY NOT COMBINE his SPOKEN WORD with INSTRUMENTAL POLKAS. I found the perfect polka. Al Bachmann had written the Around The Clock Polka for one of his future releases, and I have now renamed this to be the MOTHER'S DAY POLKA with Wild Wilson for the vocals and Al Bachmann for the music.
Originally I was going to call this POLKA RAP but didn't for 2 reasons:

1)POLKA and RAP are on 2 ends of the musical spectrum - most people who love rap hate polka and similarly I am sure that for the most part POLKA people have little desire for RAP, although there would be a comedic aspect to combining the 2

2)I wanted to invent something and Wild Wilson informed me that I couldn't claim to invent POLKA RAP because the Happy Schnapps Combo put out a great song in 1994 called the Oktoberfest Rap, so really I would have to give credit to them for inventing it. PS if you haven't heard that song, please buy it, I think its great. SO I WANT TO CLAIM THAT I INVENTED POLKA JOKE. If someone has done this before then let me know and I will call it something else. LOL

Anyway, I am now thinking and brainstorming that I want to put out a POLKAJOKE album sometime in the next year. Anyone that has ideas or wants to give me suggestions please let me know. In the mean time please enjoy the first official POLKA JOKE song, the MOTHER"S DAY POLKA with music by Al Bachmann and words by Wild Wilson.
